Hi, my name is Tracey, and my pronouns are she/ her.
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with 10 year’s experience working with young people and their families as a mental health clinician and adolescent and family counsellor. I graduated from Social Work with first class honours and have a master’s degree in youth mental health. I am passionate about providing young people with an opportunity to reach their potential and overcome difficulties at a stage in their development that can have long term implications for mental health, wellbeing and their transition into adulthood. I am also experienced working with adults and am particularly passionate about supporting parents and carers to have their own needs met, to improve their wellbeing and quality of life while caring for others.
I am experienced in providing counselling to people with a range of difficulties such as anxiety, depression, problems with relationships and behaviour, stress, change, life transitions, trauma, grief and loss. I work with individual young people, adults and families who have experienced a range of trauma and adversity that may have disrupted their development, their relationships, family, work and study, their sense of identity and of being safe in the world.
My commitment and genuine passion for social justice and providing all people with compassion and empathy drew me to social work. I provide therapy that is person centred, systemic, strengths based, holistic and trauma informed. This means that I am interested in what really matters to you as an individual and for your family, and in meeting you where you are at. I understand that the challenges that bring you to therapy can be both helped and hindered by your circumstances at home, in your family, at work/school and by society more broadly. I believe that you have inherent strengths that can be harnessed to help you overcome the challenges that bring you to therapy and understand that things may have happened to you that have significantly impacted your life, wellbeing and current circumstances.
When we first meet, I will take the time to get to know you and together we will come up with a shared understanding of what brings you to therapy and how we can work together to help you achieve your goals.
I am trained in therapeutic approaches including cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, DBT informed therapy and narrative therapy. No matter what therapeutic approach we use I will integrate a focus on compassion and a lens that situates the problem in your broader context and experience in the world. I believe in the benefit of slowing down and gradually bringing awareness and self- compassion to everyday experiences which can help people to live life with more intention and be empowered to make changes that can lead to improved mental health, wellbeing and quality of life. This is something that I try to live and breathe in my own life.
I am available to work with young people (9-25) and adults at New Lambton on Mondays and Wednesday and Nelson Bay on Tuesdays. Telehealth and video sessions are also an available option when needed. I can provide services with a mental health treatment plan, and through private arrangement.
