Kate Meany she/her

Accepting Victim of Crime and private clients now, for a start date of 30/1/2026.

I have been a practising social worker since 2021 and have worked closely with young people and their families to support positive mental health and wellbeing in a trauma-informed way.

My professional background includes over 12 years working as a teacher in public schools, followed by roles as a school-based social worker in both primary and high schools. Most recently, I worked for more than four years in an Independent Special Assistance School working intensively with young people at individual, group and community level. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the complex challenges young people face, which I bring into my counselling work to support young people and carers in practical and meaningful ways.

My approach is strength-based and respectful. I believe the people I work with are the experts in their own lives, and I value the knowledge and insight they already hold. I work from a feminist and social justice lens, remaining mindful of fairness, identity, culture, lived experience, and the systems that impact people—particularly those who have experienced trauma and marginalisation. It is important to me that clients feel heard and understood.

I am an approved Victims of Crime counsellor and primarily use narrative therapy, working alongside people to explore the stories they—and others—hold about themselves and their lives. Together, we make sense of what is happening and identify strategies to maximise wellbeing, build confidence, and cope with challenges. I aim to create a safe and supportive space where people feel heard, understood, and empowered.

I work with young people and adults and am available on Fridays for face-to-face sessions in New Lambton, as well as via telehealth/video appointments.
